About me

Hi, my name is Vladi. I live in Bulgaria, and I find carving fascinating.

I enjoy working with wood in a simple and natural way, using only hand tools and letting each piece guide the carving. I only use trees that have already fallen, giving the wood a new life instead of cutting down living trees.

I’m always trying to do everything as fast as I can, so carving is my way of learning to slow down and be patient.

Tools used

I keep my tools simple and traditional. Most of my carvings are made using carving knives, small gouges, an axe, and a handsaw.

I usually finish the carving with some sandpaper to smooth out certain areas and bring out the final details.

 After Care

Looking After Your Wood Carving

Each carving is finished with natural oils to bring out the beauty of the wood and help protect it. To keep it looking its best, simply give it an occasional rub with a soft cloth and a little tung, walnut, flaxseed, olive, or Danish oil.

Wood is a natural material and responds to its surroundings, so try to keep your carving away from strong sunlight, radiators, fires, and high heat. Sudden changes in moisture can cause the wood to split or crack.

Spoons

With use, your spoon will naturally develop its own colour and character - this is all part of the beauty of handmade wood.

Wash by hand with warm, soapy water and dry afterwards. Avoid dishwashers, soaking, or leaving it in boiling water for long periods.

You may notice a little sheen from the natural oils during the first few uses. This is completely normal and will soon settle. All oils used are natural and non-toxic.

Pendants

Your pendant will naturally change and deepen in character as it ages. Keep in mind that water can affect it, so it’s probably best to keep it dry and follow the general care advice above.

The cord will naturally wear over time, often long before the carving does. When needed, simply replace the cord or switch to a chain.
